Money On My Mind

Sam Smith, The Lonely Hour

Recently, one of my favorite artist just came out with his debut album titled The Lonely Hour. The thing that amazes the most about this album, is how well written it actually is. The artist, Sam Smith, talked about how he never actually struggled with the problems he writes about in his lyrics, and that these are actually the struggles of his friends. For someone to be able to take the problems of his peers and flawlessly transcribe them into a top charting album blatantly amazes me. This man is talented; And this album is indeed the perfect post-breakup, pre-breakup, unsure of the relationship, album. It will put you all up in your feelings, and that is no joke.
The first song I ever heard by Sam Smith was Money on My Mind. Unfortunately, my phone died at that moment, so I couldn't Shazaam it, and no one around knew what the song was. I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that I was at a Greek Event where all the sororities and Fraternities perform dance numbers to mash-ups of different songs. What I mean to say is that i'm at that point in my life where I don't have easy access to the popular fashions and movements. I'm in college, so I hear what my peers hear, nothing more nothing less. Things at school become fashionable by that one brave soul who is willing to make a consistent change, and overtime it catches on right before the movement dies. Luckily, this particular fraternity had some rather ambitious brothers who were ahead of the music game; And I thank them! Anyways, when I came across this song it happened to speak volumes to me, and then I lost it, just like that. So my Godsend of roommate made it her mission to find this rather addicting and positively infectious song, and after about a week of non-stop searching we found it, and played it, and out played the poor song. Our friends refused to come to our room unless we played another song, or something that was just as addictive, but just not that particular song.
So we did a little digging and came across the song LaLaLa by Naughty Boy featuring Sam Smith, and this song was the game changer. We no longer obsessed over Money On My Mind, I can tell you that! At the risk of boring you any further I would like to introduce, or reintroduce, LaLaLa and Money On My Mind!

What You Need To Know:

Okay, so I know it's ever so cliche to start my very first blog post off discussing who i am, what i stand for, my entire life story, and my statement, but I must admit I do feel it is only necessary for my audience to completely understand who I am. I feel obligated to at least share my passions, because in my opinion  sharing passion is the quickest way to creating a connection or forming an unbinding bond. Unbinding as in no commitment, and bond, as in, there is indeed a sense of loyalty. (confusing I know).
Here's the gist, as I struggled to find the right words to say, I forgot the mention why I created this blog. I love music! I love to sing, to dance, to express my every emotion with the sounds and symphonies provided to me by something as simple as a beat. I am open to different forms of music, and although I do indeed play favorites, I still find joy in each (or at least most) types. It allows me to express my inner self without having to completely remove myself from my comfort zone. And as an extroverted introvert (Yes! they do exist) that is very important to me. An action as simple as putting in headphones and blocking out the world has become such an important routine. I need "me time", and I know that everyone does, but each individual has "me time" differently. My "Me time" or (MeT) for short, consists of putting on my headphones, turning up my music, and belting out the lyrics of the song that has been stuck, literally infused in my brain to the point where it consumes me, for days. And I'll sing the song repeatedly until I personally feel I have perfected it, at least to the best of my abilities!
This blog was created for the sole purpose of sharing these songs with you. I want to share the songs I've found, whether old or new, I want others to know of their potential greatness. So please, take this journey with me. If you have any suggestions, or any contribution please let me know, because I am only as informed as my audience, I need the help of others to advance to grow in the world of music.
