The Ghost Song

Stolen Dance, by Milky Chance. It's infectious, sneaky, mellow, and innovative. It's a different sound, somewhat underground, but bound to blow up sooner than we all realize, I'm starting to believe it already has!

I came across this song in a rather strange way, and I feel its unfair to say that I was "fond" of the lengths that the "iTunes Gods" went to make sure it appeared on my playlist, but nonetheless, I must express that small inkling of gratitude, deep down within me, to their rather unorthodox, and slightly obnoxious (i.e. the U2 album debacle), tactics.
Now, I feel it is necessary to inform you that it is okay if you've never heard of Milky Chance until this very moment, Don't Fret! Most people haven't! This German duo is a mix of reggae and electronic sound; so why would you come across such an odd and exotic mix, right!?!? At least that's what I was trying to understand when I found the sneaky little bastard cozied up in my song line up between "Stole My Heart" and "Stop the World, I Wanna Get off With You". The thing that scares me the most is the fact that I honestly don't know how long the song has been there for. I tried to do some digging, but was only made to understand that it was the "Single of the Week". Clearly, I did not take that finding very well and began to panic, wondering how many "Singles of the Week" had actually been imported into my song list. I soon realized that the song had to have  been in my library, incognito, for at least a year. Anyways, I couldn't even tell you what caused me to finally listen to the song, but when I gave it a chance, I was HOOKED. In the first paragraph you read, I used some choice adjectives to properly describe my feelings about this song. Those words were infectious, Sneaky (for reasons you've come to understand), mellow, and innovative.

Infectious:
When I first listened to this song I was HOOKED. HOOKED for me means it was the song I get ready to in the morning, the song I walk to class with, the song I consider, but never do, so sing karaoke with, the song I refer to my other friends, and the song I fall asleep to every night. I couldn't tell you if it was the deep, and soothing feel of the singers voice, or the tone and tempo of the music, but this song made me feel. It wasn't the giddy feeling you get when your favorite song comes on the radio, but the feeling of relating to the lyrics, and the emotions that the song initially tries to portray, the song that gives you goosebumps or chills because of the first chord struck, or the first word sung. That is what made it so infectious!

Mellow:
As you listen to this song, I encourage you to close your eyes. Actively listen to the words, the tempo, the tones, and see how calm and relaxed you begin to feel. Is it wrong that I begin to imagine a music video, more specifically, a scene of the most mundane image or background you can image. And then, only then, when I have that image in my head,  I begin to appreciate how simple the scenery actually is? This to me is the definition of mellow, being able to appreciate the mundane, and accept life as it is. That is what this song does, its funky rhythmic sounds allows you to appreciate things as they are, and understand that somethings are just out of our control.

Innovative:
When we are presented with something new, and different, in most cases we, as human beings, are reluctant to give it a try. It's human nature, and we are used to finding comfort in what we already know! This is a mix of reggae and electronic sound, it's both funky and lively.
